Region News & Upcoming Events:

  • Often special education teachers do not get the recognition for the fantastic job they do on a daily basis. Here in Region 8, we are very lucky to have so many great teachers. The following people from our region received district or county recognition last year.
    • Karen O'Donnell, a Special Day Class Teacher, was named the Los Osos Middle School Teacher of the Year.
    • Reena Sharma, a Special Day Class Teacher at Keith Thompson School in Hollister, was named Teacher of the Year for her district.
    • Nancy Santoianni, a Resource Specialist Teacher at San Luis Obispo High School, was named District Teacher of the Year.
    • Tina McEnroe has been named the Cal Poly College of Education 2008 Honored Alumna. Tina is currently a Special Education Teacher and a Reading Specialist at Vista de Las Cruces School in Gaviota, Santa Barbara County
    • This last spring Anne Magoon from Ventura, was honored with a Golden Bell Award from the Ventura County SELPA.
    • Jennifer Dinelli from San Luis Obispo County, was awarded the Golden Apple award on behalf of the San Luis Obispo County SELPA.

  • Local chapters are getting ready for the start of the school year! E-mail your chapter president for information about Fall events in your area.
  • ATTENTION SANTA BARBARA COUNTY MEMBERS!! A region event sponsored by CARS+ will be taking place in your area on October 18th! Come and meet your CARS+ Region 8 Director, your CARS+ President Elect and your CARS+ Treasurer! Keep checking this website for more information on this event.
