Rachel is the ACTS creator and has worked in special education as a teacher and administrator for over 15 years. From early in her career, Rachel often felt frustrated by a special education system that is very disability ad deficit-centric – that is, students’ disabilities, inabilities and weaknesses consumed most of the educational focus while their abilities and interests are generally ignored. Yet, in her experience and research, Rachel found that ability-centered education and planning (largely accomplished through effective transition planning and implementation) has the greatest potential to launch students into successful and meaningful post-secondary outcomes. As a result, Rachel has devoted her career to building transition systems that are legally defensible and meaningful. She currently works as the Transition Coordinator for the Connecting Waters Charter Schools as well as founder and director of the non-profit organization, Ability Centered Educational Services (ACES)
