Dr. Mike Torres is an Education Programs Consultant for the Assessment Development and Administration Division at the California Department of Education (CDE). Mike is the state lead on accessibility for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress system. He works with a group of individuals to develop and support the administration of statewide assessments.
Prior to working on assessments, Mike conducted focused monitoring and provided technical assistance to the Special Education Local Plan Areas in Los Angeles County for the CDE. With ten years of secondary mathematics and science teaching experience, Mike has experience working closely with students of all needs, including students with disabilities. Mike’s teaching experience includes both middle school and continuation high school.
Mike is a lifelong learner who recently completed a doctorate in educational leadership with an emphasis in educational technology.
Participants will receive the most current information regarding accessibility resources for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. Participants will have an understanding of: accessibility resource categories, the range of students who benefit from the use of accessibility resources, and a practical approach to assignment of accessibility resources.
